Mavericks Ready For Challenge of Griak Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha cross country team jumps right back into action at the Roy Griak Invitational at Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 23. The women's Division I race begins at 1:20 p.m.
The Mavericks are coming off the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 16. In that meet, freshman Emily Johnson led the way for the Mavericks, finishing 26th overall in a time of 22:47.5 in her first career 6k event. It was UNO's fastest time on the course at Pioneers Park since then-senior Amanda Vorthmann ran 21:49.33 in 2012.
Renata Valquier Chavez finished 29th while fellow sophomore Willa Koenig finished 31st at 23:05.2 and 23:08.9, respectively.
Alyssa Averhoff was fourth for the Mavericks with a time of 23:31.1, good for 39th. Rounding out the scoring five was Anita Jenkins in 52nd with a time of 24:01.8. The spread between the scoring five was an impressive 1:14.
The Mavericks will have two weeks off before competing again at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Oct. 13.
