Johnson Earns All-League Honors at Summit League Championships

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha cross country team took sixth at the Summit League Cross Country Championships Saturday at Miracle Hill Golf Course, finishing with 153 points in the team standings.
Sophomore Emily Johnson earned second-team All-Summit honors after placing ninth with a personal-best time of 21:44.25. The mark is the third-fastest 6k time in school history, and Johnson is Omaha's first all-league performer in cross country since Ashley Kildow in 2014.
Freshman Heidi Hall took 36th place in a personal-best time of 23:20.01. Junior Anita Jenkins followed in 41st (23:43.53), senior Lauren Houston was 44th (24:02.88), and junior Ivanna Uribe was 46th (24.18.49).
Seniors Annie Catania (25:04.87) and Daylee Olson (26:07.92) rounded out the Maverick contingent for the day.
"You just can't put into words what today meant to our team," head coach Cliff Cisar said. "It's been a long time coming for our group to have the chance to compete at home, and the outcome was a learning experience. We had a lot of built-up emotion that took some of the energy out of us in the later stages of the race.
"Emily Johnson ran a spectacular race and the result of all her hard work was evident in her top-10 finish. We're going to enjoy the time with family and friends in town today and refresh our minds and bodies as we prepare for the last two weeks of the season."
The Mavericks have a two-week break before competing at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10:45 a.m. in Peoria, Ill.
