FARGO, N.D. - The Omaha track & field team sits in sixth place after the first day of action at the Summit League Championships in Fargo, N.D.
Anna Edet began the scoring for the Mavericks, taking eighth in the weight throw with a massive personal record and Omaha record at 58 feet 6.5 inches (17.84 meters). That mark is nearly two feet farther than her previous program record.
"I was happy with the way we competed today," said head coach Chris Richardson. "We had many season and personal bests, and that's how you want to perform at the conference meet. There's a lot of good competition in the Summit League, and we had some individuals who were able to hold their own. Tomorrow is another day to do great things."
The distance medley relay of Kayla Sabotin, Alexis Allgood, Annie Catania, and Anita Jenkins claimed fifth and pitched in four points for the Mavericks. Their time of 12:31.72 is a new season best.
In the 800 meter prelims, Lauren Houston claimed the top seed for Saturday's finals. She ran 2:12.85 and holds the third fastest time in the Summit League.
Sasha Quattlebaum and Stephanie Ahrens both qualified for the 60 meter hurdles final. Quattlebaum finished fifth in the prelim with a time of 8.78 seconds while Ahrens took the last spot in 8.86 seconds.
