OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha track & field team will take on the rest of the Summit League at the Summit League Championships in Fargo, N.D. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
Several Mavericks are ranked in the top ten and are threats for earning spots on the podium and scoring points for the team.
Defending Summit League outdoor high jump champion Stephanie Ahrens enters the championships with the best high jump in the conference at 5 feet 9.75 inches (1.77 meters), set at the Nebraska Tune-Up last Friday. Cassady Sunderman is tied for tenth in the event at 5 feet 3 inches (1.60 meters)
Lauren Houston dominated the 800 meter at Nebraska, running 2:12.45 and winning the event by nearly four seconds. That time has her ranked third in the Summit League.
Sasha Quattlebaum and Ahrens are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, in the conference for the 60 meter hurdles. Quattlebaum is tied for fifth with a time of 8.84 while Ahrens has run 8.86 seconds.
Willa Koenig is ranked ninth in the 5,000 meter with a time of 17:51.94, the third fastest in Omaha history.
Omaha weight throw record holder Anna Edet is just barely outside the top ten with a mark 56 feet 8 inches (17.27 meters). She is 11th by just one half an inch.
The Mavericks were picked to finish sixth in the preseason Summit League coaches' poll.
Competition begins each day at 9:30 a.m. from North Dakota State's Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
