OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha track & field team resumes action at the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake on Friday, April 13. With inclement weather in the forecast for the weekend, the schedule has been updated and begins at 1 p.m.
The Mavericks previous competition was the Emporia State Relays on March 31 where several Mavericks placed in the top 10, including two victories.
Both Stephanie Ahrens and Lauren Houston collected wins in their respective events. Ahrens cleared 5 feet 8.75 inches (1.75 meters) in the high jump, which put her in the lead in the Summit League by more than three inches. Houston won the 800 meter in a time of 2:16.54 and is currently seventh in the Summit League rankings.Â
Anita Jenkins also competed in the 800 meter and claimed fourth in 2:21.13.
Anna Edet just missed setting a new lifetime best in the hammer throw with a mark of 158 feet 7 inches (48.33 meters). That throw earned her fourth overall.Â
Annie Catania was the first Maverick to take on the 3,000 meter steeplechase this season and finished fifth in 12:04.85.
In the long jump, Noni Henderson jumped 36 feet 4.75 inches (11.09 meters) while Sasha Quattlebaum jumped 36 feet 1.5 inches (11.01 meters). Henderson finished sixth, and Quattlebaum took eighth.
Alyssa Averhoff was the only Maverick in the 5,000 meter and finished sixth in 18:29.45.Â
Rosie Gensichen and Renata Valquier Chavez finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 1,500 meter. Gensichen ran 4:58.24, and Valquier Chavez clocked in at 4:58.27.Â
Next weekend the Mavericks will be in the Golden State for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif. on Thursday, April 19 at noon. The team is also scheduled for the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif. That meet is scheduled for April 19 and Friday, April 20. Both day one and day two begin at noon CT.
