Quartet leads Mavericks at Jim Duncan Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa - Four athletes took home victories, and several others earned top-10 spots for the Omaha track & field team at the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake.
Anna Edet won the hammer throw with a toss of 155 feet 8 inches (47.44 meters). That mark represents a new season best. Edet also competed in the discus where she finished fourth with a throw of 116 feet 6 inches (35.50 meters).
Stephanie Ahrens joined Edet with a victory of her own in the high jump, clearing a season and Summit League-best 5 feet 9.75 inches (1.77 meters). The mark should guarantee her a spot in the NCAA Preliminaries for a third straight year.
"I was extremely happy with the way we competed today," said head coach Chris Richardson. "Throughout the lineup, we got better as a team. While we might compete in different events, great performances motivate others to be great as well."
Noni Henderson claimed third in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 1.75 inches (4.92 meters).
On the track, Anita Jenkins garnered a victory, taking the top spot in the 1,500 meter with a time of 4:47.91, six seconds faster than her previous lifetime best. Following in third was Rosie Gensichen in 4:50.40, also a new personal best.
Lauren Houston collected her third victory of the season in the 800 meter, finishing the event in 2:12.97. Houston now has the eighth-fastest outdoor 800 meter in program history.
In the 200 meter, Scarlett Hill took third in a new personal best time of 26.29 seconds. In fifth was Brekk Flax in 26.74 seconds. Jaycee Schettler finished eighth in 27.47 seconds, a new lifetime best. Brekk Flax also finished sixth in the 100 meter dash in 13.00 seconds.
Emily Johnson ran 18:08.46 in the 5,000 meter to finish third while Alyssa Averhoff finished eighth with a time of 18:23.36. Johnson ran the sixth fastest outdoor 5,000 meter in program history. Willa Koenig and Kayla Sabotin finished ninth and 10th, respectively 18:28.94 and 18:47.62.
Annie Catania finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:42.22. Her time is the fifth fastest in program history.
In the 400 meter, Alexis Allgood dipped under the one-minute mark with a time of 59.74, good for fifth. It marked a new season best and nearly set a personal best. Daylee Olson finished in 1:01.15, good for seventh.
The 4x400 meter relay of Houston, Allgood, Olson, and Hill finished second in a time of 4:00.56.
The Mavericks return to action at meets in California beginning Thursday, April 19.
