Mavericks Prepped for West Coast Competition

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha track and field team will compete in two meets in California on Thursday and Friday. The team will be split between the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif., and the two-day Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif. The Pacific Coast meet is a one-day meet on Thursday and starts at noon. Day one of the Bryan Clay Invitational begins at 5:30 central.
Last weekend at the Jim Duncan Invitational, four Mavericks took home victories, while others claimed multiple top-five spots.
Anna Edet won the hammer throw with a toss of 155 feet 8 inches (47.44 meters). That mark represents a new season best. Edet also competed in the discus where she finished fourth with a throw of 116 feet 6 inches (35.50 meters).
Stephanie Ahrens joined Edet with a victory of her own in the high jump, clearing a season and Summit League-best 5 feet 9.75 inches (1.77 meters). The mark should guarantee her a spot in the NCAA Preliminaries for a third straight year.
In the 1,500 meter, Anita Jenkins earned a victory, taking the top spot in 4:47.91, six seconds faster than her previous lifetime best. Following in third was Rosie Gensichen in 4:50.40, also a new personal best.
Lauren Houston collected her third victory of the season in the 800 meter, finishing the event in 2:12.97. Houston now has the eighth-fastest outdoor 800 meter in program history.
Noni Henderson took third in the long jump with a best mark of 16 feet 1.75 inches (4.92 meters).Â
In the 200 meter, Scarlett Hill finished third in 26.29 second while Brekk Flax took fifth in 26.74 seconds.
Emily Johnson landed in fifth in the 5,000 meter event, crossing the line in 18:08.46. Her time is the sixth fastest outdoor 5,000 meter in program history.
Annie Catania finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:42.22. Her time is the fifth fastest in program history.
Alexis Allgood claimed the fifth spot in the 400 meter in 59.74 seconds.
In the final event of the meet, Houston, Allgood, Daylee Olson, and Hill secured a second place finish in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:00.56.
Following this weekend, Omaha will be back in Iowa for the Drake Relays in Des Moines. The athletes who don't compete at Drake will be at the Simpson Invite in Indianola, Iowa. Both meets start on Thursday at 2 p.m.
