Mavericks Hit Two Meets In Iowa This Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team readies for its second straight week competing in two meets beginning Thursday.
The Mavericks will send a majority of the team to the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa on Thursday and Friday, April 26-27 while Lauren Houston and Stephanie Ahrens will compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines on Thursday and Saturday, April 28, respectively.
Last week, UNO went to California to compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State and the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific.
Each meet featured a school record. Junior Anna Edet set the school mark in the hammer throw at Long Beach State, putting up a mark of 167-06. The throw was three and a half feet farther than the old record set by Ryan Hergott in 2003.
The next day, Ahrens tied the school record in the high jump at Azusa Pacific with a leap of 5-11 ½, earning first place in a field of 53 athletes. She equaled the mark set by Kathie-Lee Laidley in 2013. Ahrens owns the top high jump mark in the Summit League by more than six inches and for her efforts was named the Summit League co-Athlete of the Week.
Following competition in Iowa, the Mavericks will be closer to home next week, competing in the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, May 5 in Lincoln.
