Mavericks Take Eighth at UNO Invitational

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Senior Jordan York led the Omaha women's golf team in scoring, helping the Mavericks to eighth place at the UNO Invitational on Saturday.
Due to a lightning delay in round one on Friday, second-round play was suspended due to darkness. Six groups finished their second round on Saturday morning before playing the third round.
The Mavericks were one team to finish its second round on time. They carded 333 in the second and then shot a tournament-low team score of 319 in the third round to finish at 977 in the nine-team tournament. South Dakota State won the event with a score of 892. South Dakota finished second at 920, edging North Dakota State which finished third at 925
York shot 78 in the second round and 79 in the third round to finish at 236 for the 54-hole tournament, good for a tie for 20th place.
Samantha Chong was second on the team and 38th overall with a total score of 245 that included scores of 85 and 79 in the second and third rounds respectively. She finished two strokes ahead of teammate Mandy Boyle who shot 85 in the second round and 79 in the third for a total of 247 that put her 41st.
Hannah Hunke and Zora Gittens tied for fourth on the team and 45th overall at 251. Hunke shot 85 and 82 over the last two rounds while Gittens carded an 87 and an 82.
Sami Langford, playing as an individual, shot 83 and 84 to finish at 255, good for a tie for 53rd.
The Mavericks return to action at the MSU/Payne Stewart Classic hosted by Missouri State on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11.
