LINCOLN, Neb. – Sophomore Emily Johnson just missed a career best 6K time in leading the Omaha cross country team at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invite at Nebraska on Saturday.
Johnson ran a time of 22:21.3 over the course at the Mahoney Golf Course to score 23rd overall in the field of 142 Division I runners.
"Emily led the team today with a gutsy performance," said cross country head coach Cliff Cisar. "It was a very hot and humid day that really affected the field of runners. I'm proud of how well she competed."
Anita Jenkins was second for the Mavericks and 69th overall in a time of 23:56.4. She finished just ahead of teammate Heidi Hall. The freshman was 73rd overall in a time of 24:01.5.
Ivanna Uribe was fourth on the team in a time of 24:57.6, good for 81st place. Lauren Houston completed the scoring for UNO with a time of 25:09.2, putting her 82nd overall.
"Each of other scorers had to make some choices in the race to keep themselves in contention, and all did a great job given the circumstances," Cisar added. Â
The Mavericks finished 12th among the field of 12 Division I teams with 328 points.
The Mavericks have a couple of weeks off before returning to action at the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 28.
