Four Mavericks Hit PR's at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Omaha cross country team got personal bests from its top four runners on its way to finishing 15th in the gold division of the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame.
For the third straight meet, sophomore Emily Johnson led the team in scoring, finishing 12th overall in the field of 139 runners with a 5K time of 17:51.77. In addition to being a PR, it also was Omaha's second fastest 5K time in school history.
"Coming through the first mile, she was in 28th place, and she then started to use each kilometer as an opportunity to close the gap on the lead pack," said Cliff Cisar, cross country head coach. "She picked up 16 spots to finish 12th.
"The chase pack of Anita Jenkins, Heidi Hall and Lauren Houston all ran gutsy races to score 2-3-4 for the team while each adding huge PR's."
Jenkins finished 69th overall with a time of 19:08.33. Hall was 94th in a time of 19:23.85, and Houston came in 99th in a time of 19:29.29. Annie Catania completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a time of 19:51.61, good for 111th place.

The Mavericks finished with 360 points.
"Ultimately, we took a lot out of today," added Cisar. "We had some great performances but also some great learning experiences.
"Our minds and bodies will now start to make the switch towards championship season as it's right around the corner. Each day gets more and more important from here on out."
The Mavericks are off until Friday, Oct. 12 at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
