OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball program opens the 2019 campaign with a three-game series at Southern California this Friday, Feb. 15 – Sunday, Feb. 17.
The Mavericks take on USC at 8 p.m. (CST) in Los Angeles, Calif., on the opening day, followed by a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday and a 2 p.m. showdown on Sunday.

LEADING OFF
Omaha begins the 2019 season under third-year head coach Evan Porter, who is 27-75 overall. This marks the seventh-straight opening game on the road for the Mavericks since joining the Division I era in 2011-12.
The Mavericks finished fifth last season in The Summit League standings and are picked to finish fifth this season in the preseason poll. Catcher Brett Bonar and right-handed pitcher Joey Machado were selected as The Summit League Preseason Players to Watch for Omaha.
The Mavericks return a total of 17 letterwinners from last season and welcome 15 newcomers to the roster. Thomas DeBonville returns as the team's only All-Summit League honoree from the previous season.
Grant Suponchick is the team's active career leader in nine different categories. The senior also earned First Team All-Summit League honors two seasons ago as a designated hitter.
The Mavericks bring back seven of their position starters and five from the mound last season.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
The Trojans open the season under seventh-year head coach Dan Hubbs, who is 163-171 at Southern California.
USC brings back a wealth of experience, returning 24 letterwinners while only losing nine.
The team also welcomes 14 newcomers, and brings back seven position starters and 10 pitchers. Last season, the team went 26-28 and 12-18 in the Pac 12, and placed five players on the All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention list. Of those honorees, the team returns three in Chase Bushor (INF), Connor Lunn (RHP) and Blake Sabol (C/OF). This year's team consists of three seniors, 15 juniors, 11 sophomores and 12 freshmen.
Last season, USC closed out its Pac-12 regular season slate against eventual National Champion Oregon State. In the series, the Trojans fell 4-0 and 8-1, but closed it out with an 8-0 win in the third game on May 20, 2018. USC ended the season dropping three of its final four games.
This season's team brings back Bushor as its leading hitter with a .301 batting average, while Sabol's four homers last year are the most by a returning player on the roster. Matthew Acosta's 26 RBI are the most for a returning Trojan player, while the duo of Brandon Perez and Sabol started all 54 games last season. On the mound, both Kyle Hurt and Quentin Longrie notched four wins apiece, while Connor Lunn tallied a team-best eight saves last season.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Mavericks return to the midwest for a quick stop against Kansas on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m., and return to the west coast for a four-game series at Seattle from Feb. 22-24
