OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball program continues the road slate with a four-game series at Seattle University this weekend.
The Mavericks take on the Redhawks with a pair of doubleheaders on Friday, Feb. 22 – Saturday, Feb. 23. This Friday, Omaha and Seattle will play a seven-inning game at 2 p.m. (CST) and follow up with a nine-inning 5 p.m. matchup later that day. On Saturday, the Mavericks and Redhawks will play seven innings at 3 p.m., which precedes a 6 p.m. nine-inning game to close out the series.
Pending weather, baseball will be played on Sunday if necessary.

LEADING OFF
• The Omaha baseball program looks to build off its season-opening weekend at Southern California, with a four-game series at Seattle Feb. 22-23. The Mavericks were scheduled to play a mid-week contest this past Wednesday at the University of Kansas, but the event was cancelled due to weather conditions.
• So far, shortstop Keil Krumwiede leads the team with a .444 batting average along with four runs through three games played.
• Thomas DeBonville is the team's leader in home runs (1) and RBI (4) along with three hits and a run scored.
• On the mound, the Mavericks will start a trio of right-handers in Joey Machado (0-0), Payton Kinney (1-0) and Richie Holetz (0-0), along with left-hander Spencer Koelewyn (0-1) in the final game of the series.
• Kinney has the best ERA on the team at 2.25 over opening weekend, followed by Machado, who posted a 3.38 ERA on opening day through 5.1 innings pitched. Holetz will make his season and career debut as a starter on the mound for Omaha.
• Newcomer and third baseman Breyden Eckhout is batting .333, which is tied for second-highest on the team and he also has three hits, two doubles, two runs and an RBI.
• As a team, Omaha is hitting .222 and has recorded 17 runs, 22 hits, a .333 slugging percentage and a .307 on-base percentage
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS.
Seattle is coming off a 1-2 series in Las Vegas, Nev., at UNLV over opening weekend. The Redhawks and Mavericks will meet for the fourth time in the series history, with Seattle owning a 2-1 advantage over Omaha.
The last time Omaha played a series against Seattle was Feb. 28-29, 2012. In that series, the Mavericks went 1-2, winning the first game and falling in the next two games that series (W 3-2, L 3-2, L 8-3). Currently, the Redhawks are batting .360 as a team with 19 runs, 41 hits, six home runs, a .596 slugging percentage and a .417 on base percentage.
On the mound, they have a 4.39 ERA through 26.2 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts and 18 walks through three games of play. Left-hander Jake Prizina was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18 for his performances over opening weekend. The pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout on Friday night to give Seattle U a 4-0 win over UNLV. The southpaw scattered five hits and struck out five while walking just one to earn the win. It marked the first nine-inning complete game for the Redhawks since 2014 and just the third overall since Seattle U resurrected its baseball program in 2010.
Prizina, third baseman Austin Lively and catcher/designated hitter Justin Mazzone earned Preseason All-WAC honors and the team was picked fourth out of 10 teams in the conference. Following the series against Omaha, they play March 1-2 at Pacific.
DAUGHERTY IN THE CLUTCH
After only pitching 0.1 innings last season, senior Tyler Daugherty earned his first-career save in the series finale win over Southern California on Feb. 17.
The Mavericks led 12-1, but suffered eight unanswered runs by the Trojans and led by only three in the bottom of the eighth. Daugherty entered the game and recorded 17 strikes on 25 total pitches, two strikeouts and allowed zero runs.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Mavericks hit the road to the southeast to take on Savannah State for a three-game series March 1-3. The games are scheduled to take place in Savannah, Ga. Following the road trip in Georgia, the Mavericks return to the midwest for a mid-week showdown with Nebraska in Lincoln Tuesday, March 5.
