Mavericks Hit Lifetime Bests at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Senior Lauren Houston ran Omaha's fastest 400 meter time in two years to lead the track & field team at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday. It was the Mavericks' last meet before the Summit League Championships.
Houston ran a lifetime best of 56.86 in the 400. It was her first time running under 57 seconds and her second personal best of the season after clocking a time of 57.15 in Long Beach, California a little more than two weeks ago.
Sophia Kirwan also had a lifetime best in the 400 with a time of 58.99.
Also on the track, two Mavericks ran lifetime bests in the 1,500 meters. Annie Catania posted a time of 4:47.70 and Heidi Hall put up a time of 4:50.72.
"This was a great meet to get us ready for the Summit League Championships," said head coach Chris Richardson. "We had some people come out, believe in themselves and achieve performances that even surprised them. We want this momentum to continue into next week for some great individual performances."
In the field, Anna Edet fell just three inches short of her own school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 157-06. It was the second farthest throw of her career and helped her finish in third place.
Lori Vedder put up a lifetime best in the discus throw with a mark of 120-06, a full four feet farther than her previous best.
Stephanie Ahrens, competing unattached because she has exhausted her outdoor eligibility, won the high jump with a height of 6-00. It was only the third time in her career clearing six feet.
The Mavericks now will prepare for the Summit League Championships, hosted by Western Illinois, on May 8-10 in Macomb, Ill.
