Buttermore Adds Local Duo of McCormick and Wieseler

OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Matt Buttermore announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday.
The local duo includes outside hitter Shayla McCormick and defensive specialist Brilee Wieseler.
Shayla McCormick | OH | 5-11 | Omaha, Neb.
A multi-time letterwinner out of Skutt Catholic High School, McCormick is a four-time state champion and an all-state honoree. Throughout her career, McCormick tallied 277 kills on 208 sets played and a .266 hitting percentage. She also recorded 51 aces on a .953 serving percentage and 41 total blocks. McCormick also played club volleyball for the Nebraska Elite, where she was a 16-Open AAU All-American.
"Shayla has been on some of the most successful club and high school teams in the state the past few years," said Buttermore. "She's a great all-around player and a dynamic attacker on the outside. She has a lot of championship experience and we're excited to see the impact she has in our gym."
Brilee Wieseler | DS | 5-8 | Elkhorn, Neb.
Wieseler comes to the Mavericks as a two-time metro champion and district champion at Elkhorn South High School. Over her career at Elkhorn, she averaged 3.2 digs per set with 263 total. She also tallied 0.4 aces per set with 30 total on 82 sets played. Wieseler also recorded 102 career kills. The Elkhorn native also played for the Nebraska Elite in club volleyball and went to the AAU National Championship every season she played, which included a runner-up finish in 2015.
"Brilee is a great athlete that has played on some great teams, and she can help us in just about every phase of the game," said Buttermore. "She suffered a season-ending injury this fall, but we're excited she's coming in this spring so she can start learning as well as have a chance to rehab with our medical staff. I know she'll come back stronger and be a great addition to our program."
