Mavericks Ready For Summit League Championships

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team is headed to Fort Wayne, Ind. this weekend for the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare.
The meet begins at 8:30 a.m. CT each day from the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne.
On Friday, the Mavericks will compete in five events. Junior Jaycee Schettler will represent the Mavericks in the pentathlon. Earlier this year, she set a lifetime best in the event, scoring 3,000 points at the Graduate Classic at Nebraska.
A trio of Mavericks will take part in the 60 meter dash. Senior Brekk Flax will lead the group, fresh off running the eighth-fastest time in school history in the event – 7.77 at the Nebraska Tune-Up last weekend. Flax goes into the event ranked seventh in the Summit League.
Freshman Carrie Simonson and junior Scarlett Hill also will compete in the event.
Simonson also is scheduled to compete in the 200 meter dash. She has already set five lifetime bests including last week's clocking of 25.34 at Nebraska. She is tied with two others for seventh in the Summit.
Also on Friday, freshmen Vanessa Gunderson and Tristian Kinsey will compete in the 60 meter hurdles. The Mavericks also will field a quartet in the 4,000 meter distance medley relay.
On Saturday, in addition to the finals of the sprints, Anita Jenkins, Paige Blackford, Maya Nachtigal and Renata Valquier Chavez all will run in the mile. Â
Ivanna Uribe will represent the Mavericks in the 5,000 meters, and Cecelia Ivwionrume and Lori Vedder will compete in the weight throw.
The Mavericks also will compete in the 4x400 meter relay.
