COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Omaha baseball team recorded a split in a twin bill at Missouri on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks won 17-11 in game one while the Tigers took the nightcap, 10-1.
The split moves Omaha to 2-3 on the season while Mizzou improves to 3-4.
Game One: Omaha 17, Missouri 11
How It Happened
Mike Boeve and Ryan Doran reached on singles before Chris Esposito launched a three-run homer to left to give the Mavericks a 3-0 lead in the first.
Missouri scored a run in the first and added three more in the second to grab a 4-3 lead over Omaha after two innings.
Doran ripped a two-RBI to right, scoring Breyden Eckhout and Masen Prososki in the fourth to give the Mavericks a 5-4 lead in the fourth. Esposito followed with an RBI single to plate Harrison Denk and extend the lead to 6-4.
Denk's RBI single in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth made it a 7-5 game after six innings.
Jack Lombardi began the seventh with a solo homer and RBI doubles from Prososki and Keil Krumwiede blew the game open at 11-5. A sac fly from Doran and Esposito's two-run home run expanded the Maverick lead to 14-5 after seven innings.
After a seven run seventh, Omaha followed with three more runs in the eighth. Denk roped a two-RBI double to left and Esposito reached on fielder's choice with the bases loaded that brought Denk home to grow the lead to 12.
A pair of RBI triples and a two-run homer from Mizzou in the bottom of the ninth made it a six-run game, but the Mavericks held on for the 17-11 victory in the slugfest.
