Kametani Tabbed Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After Omaha's historic win over crosstown rival Creighton Saturday afternoon, junior forward Hugo Kametani has been named the Summit League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. It marks his first weekly honor of his career.
Kametani scored two goals for the Mavericks in the 3-0 win over the Bluejays. Ed Port netted the game winning goal in the sixth minute of action. Shortly after, Kametani added a second in the eighth minute. Nil Ayats sent he ball from just past midfield to the top right of the box. Kametani used two touches before sending the ball to the low left of the net to put Omaha up 2-0.
Kametani scored his second goal of the match in the 22nd minute. Stevie Siy took a shot in the bottom right of the box that was blocked by the Creighton goalkeeper. Kametani gave chase and scored Omaha's third goal on the rebound off the blocked shot.
The two goals scored by Kametani mark a season-best for the Kashima, Japan native. He has scored three of Omaha's four goals this season. He finished the match with three shots.
Kametani and the Mavericks will be back in action this weekend with a conference series with Western Illinois. The first match between the teams is set for Thursday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
