The Omaha baseball team opens Summit League action with a four-game weekend series vs. South Dakota State at Tal Anderson Field. The Mavericks and Jackrabbits will play a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. and single games on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Around the Horn

The Mavericks are 5-8 on the season after taking one from Kansas last weekend in a four-game series.
Chris Esposito leads Omaha at the plate this season, hitting .404 with a pair of doubles, three triples, three homers, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored.
Esposito leads the Summit League in triples while second in home runs and RBI and third in batting average.
Brett Bonar is second on the team with a .333 batting average and is one of four Mavericks with a team-high five doubles, followed by Harrison Denk hitting .311 in 13 starts.
Richie Holetz is 1-1 on the season in four starts on the mound for the Mavericks. Holetz has a 2.86 ERA and a team-high 20 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.
As a team, Omaha is hitting .251 with 77 runs, 111 hits, 31 doubles, seven triples and eight home runs this season.
Head coach Evan Porter is in his fifth season at the helm of the Maverick baseball program.

Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits begin Summit League play with a 5-7 overall record after falling twice to Kansas State in their last time out. Jess Bellows is hitting a team-high .333 in nine starts with three doubles, a homer and seven RBI. Derek Hackman is the only other Jackrabbit hitting over .300 with a .306 batting average while Landon Badger leads SDSU with four doubles and Luke Ira has brought in eight runs.

Adam Mazur is 1-1 on the mound in three starts on the season with a 4.50 ERA and team-high 23 strikeouts. Mazur was honored as Summit League Pitcher of the Week earlier this season after helping lead the Jackrabbits to a four-game weekend sweep at Northern Colorado.

As a team, the Jackrabbits are hitting .226 with 59 runs, 90 hits, 21 doubles, six triples and six homers in 12 games. The South Dakota State pitching staff has a combined ERA of 6.21 with 122 strikeouts while allowing 85 runs, 69 earned, on 109 hits in 100 innings.

Head coach Rob Bishop is in his fifth season at SDSU and has an overall record of 82-97. In his 11^th season overall, Bishop has notched a career record of 216-250.

All-Time vs. South Dakota State
Omaha and SDSU enter the weekend having met 167 times on the diamond. Omaha leads the all-time series over the Jackrabbits, 86-80-1. In their last meeting, SDSU on 6-4 in 13 innings on April 28, 2019 in Omaha.
