Mavericks Earn Two Major Awards, Nine All-Summit Nods

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha women's soccer brought in two Summit League major awards and nine All-Summit nods Wednesday morning, the league announced. Sophia Green earned Newcomer of the Year and Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Year, while six different players earn All-Summit Team honors.
Omaha's nine All-Summit awards is the most ever the program has been awarded in the Division I era. The Mavericks' two major awards is also the most in a single-season since joining the Summit League.
Green was named the Newcomer of the Year and earned Second Team and All-Newcomer Team honors. Previously known as the Freshman of the Year award, Green's nod as the Newcomer of the Year is the first time a Maverick has earned the honor in program history.
Green made 15 starts and 16 appearances in the regular season. She leads the Mavericks with 14 points, six goals, and two assists. Green leads the league with 2.31 shots per game. She is also on the top-10 conference leader boards in shots on goal per game (1.00), goals (6), game winners (3), and points (14).
For the first time in the Division I era, Omaha also brings home the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year honor with Olesen collecting the honors. She was also named First Team All-Summit and All-Newcomer.
Olesen has made 10 starts in goal for the Mavericks this season logging 952:35 minutes between the pipes. She's posted six shutouts and has a record of 6-2-2 so far this year. Olesen is second in the league with a .567 goals against average and six shutouts, third with a .806 save percentage, and seventh with 2.5 saves per game. Olesen's six shutouts ranks first in Division I single-season records, while her six wins ranks second.
Junior defender Margaret LaVigne joins Olesen on the First Team for Omaha. LaVigne has helped the Mavericks to nine shutouts this season, which is the most Omaha has recorded in a single-season since 2008. Following back-to-back shutouts vs. SDSU, LaVigne was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week. She leads the team in minutes with 1,526 and has 13 shots this season.
Joining Green on the Second Team is freshman midfielder Grace Ostergaard. Ostergaard has started all 16 regular season matches for Omaha. She's logged the third most minutes on the team with over 1,300. Ostergaard has one assist, 11 shots, and one shot on goal this season.
Green, Olesen, and Ostergaard were also named to the All-Newcomer team. They're joined by teammates Jordyn West and Regan Zimmers.
West has started 16 matches and logged nearly 1,500 minutes on the pitch for Omaha this season. The freshman defender has four points with one goal and two assists this season. West has one weekly honor this season after helping the Mavericks to a series sweep vs. Oral Roberts.
Zimmers has started all 14 matches she was available for this season. She's logged nearly 1,000 minutes on the pitch and has one goal and two assists this year. Zimmers has totaled 26 shots with eight on goal in regular season action. The redshirt freshman tallied goals vs. North Dakota and Western Illinois.
The Mavericks look to continue their 2020-21 success this Thursday in the Summit League semifinals. The No. 3 seeded Omaha team will take on the No. 2 seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Caniglia Field at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to the Summit League Championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.
