Kametani Named to 2021 Men's Hermann Trophy Watch List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hugo Kametani is one of 44 men's soccer players named to the 2021 Men's Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the nation's National Player of the Year. Division I coaches who are members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services program vote for the award.
Last season, Kametani was tabbed the program's first All-American with third team honors from United Soccer Coaches. He also collected United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region, Summit League Newcomer of the Year, All-Summit First Team, and Summit All-Newcomer Team honors.
The senior forward finished the year leading the Mavericks and Summit League with 19 points and nine goals. He added an assist, 36 shots, 18 shots on goal, and three game winners. The Kashima, Japan native netted two goals in three different games last season. His final two-goal game was Omaha's upset vs. UNC-Greensboro. The two goals vs. the Spartans tied Kametani for the single-season scoring record.
Fifteen players are named Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following United Soccer Coaches Division I All-America voting after the regular season. A final round of voting names three finalists on Dec. 15. The 2021 winner is announced on Jan. 7, 2022, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
