
Halvorson Notches New Career Best As Omaha Finishes SIUE Dolenc Invitational

Madison, Ill.- The Omaha men's golf team finishes the final round in 13th place at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational on Tuesday.
The Mavericks saved their best for the last round, improving by seven strokes, from 295 in the second to 288 in the third. Omaha ends the event with a 54-hole total of 891, falling one stroke behind Samford who takes 12th with 890.
Mathew Halvorson tied the third-lowest single-round score in program history with a 66 (-5) in the third round. The veteran sank five birdies in a bogey-free final 18, setting a new career-best round score in the process. Halvorson ends the event in 31st place with a two-day total of 222. Sharing 31st with Halvorson is Christopher Atkinson. The sophomore recorded a 74 (+3) in round three to finish with a 54-hole score of 222.
Kurtis Rodriguez finished just one stroke behind Halvorson and Atkinson with a three-round total of 223. The sophomore used an even third round to end in a tie for 40th place on the leaderboard. Connor Wilson was just two strokes behind Rodriguez with a total score of 225. Wilson finishes the tournament with a share of 48th place after recording a 77 (+6) in round three.
Carter Doose and Nolan Johnson end with 54-hole scores of 227 and 228, respectively. Doose posted a 74 (+3) in round three to tie for 59th place. Johnson notched a 78 (+7) in the final round to finish with a share of 66th.
The Mavericks return home for the Big O Classic next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4. Playing host with Creighton, the Mavericks and Bluejays welcome teams to Indian Creek golf course in Elkhorn for the men, and Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha for the women.
