
Mavericks Done with Day One in Homer

Homer, Neb.-- The Omaha men's golf team wrapped up day one action from Landmand Golf Club in Homer, Nebraska on Tuesday, Oct. 10.Â
The Mavericks scored 298 in the first round that started late due to frost on the course. As it stands, Omaha has one to two holes to complete in the second round, but results are unofficial. The Mavericks finished the first round in fifth place, one stroke behind St. Thomas and two strokes ahead of Indian Hills CC. Creighton had the best score of the eight teams competing in round one, totaling 282 over the first 18 holes. Bluejay Shaun Campbell led the tournament after a round-one score of 67 (-6).Â
Christopher Atkinson scored an even 73 in the first round. Atkinson used five birdies for a share of sixth place. Connor Wilson finished round one a stroke behind Atkinson with a score of 74 (+1) and a share of 16th place on the leaderboard.Â
Nolan Johnson was a stroke behind Wilson with a round-one score of 75 (+2). Austin Goodrum was just behind Johnson with 76 (+3). Johnson was tied for 24th place and Goodrum shared 33rd place after the opening round on Tuesday. Porter Topp remained in the lineup for the second-straight week. The freshman recorded a score of 78 (+5) in round one and for 40th place overall. Â
Golfing individually, Josh Peters finished the first round in 24th place. Peters used four birdies over the first 18 to score 75 (+2). Jack Tickle scored 84 and tied for 57th place in round one.Â
Players will complete round two and start the final round immediately after on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The shotgun start is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Â
