Green, Zimmers Headline Summit League Honors

Sioux Falls, S.D.-- Seven Mavericks were named All-Summit League on Thursday morning as the league announced the 2023 postseason awards.
Headlining the honors for Omaha are Sophia Green and Regan Zimmers. Green was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Zimmers was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year.
Sophia Green led the Summit League all season in scoring. The senior from Allyn, Washington tallied nine goals and four assists for a career-high 22 points this year. Green recorded goals in five of the first six games of the season, including a streak of four-straight games with a goal. She netted her sixth goal in a 2-1 win over Oklahoma that gave the senior sole possession of the Division I era program record for goals and points in a career and sparked another three-game scoring streak. The honor is the fourth of Green's career after being named to the All-League Newcomer team, All-League Second Team as well as Newcomer of the Year in 2020.
Regan Zimmers was named a Player to Watch by the League before the season and confirmed that throughout the year. Zimmers appeared in 12 games, making 10 starts and playing the entirety of nine matches. The redshirt senior helped Omaha post five clean sheets and the second-lowest opponents' scoring average in the Summit League at 1.00 goals per game. Zimmers also recorded assists in back-to-back matches at North Dakota and North Dakota State for two points on the year. With the announcement on Thursday, Regan collected the fourth postseason award of her decorated career with the Mavericks. Zimmers was named Second-Team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches and First-Team All-Summit League in 2022 and earned All-Newcomer team honors from the League in 2020.
Green and Zimmers were tabbed First-Team All-Summit League along with midfielder Grace Ostergaard. After three seasons on the Second-Team All-League, Ostergaard earned First-Team honors. Grace started all 16 games for the Mavericks, playing the entirety of eight matches. The senior from Omaha has started 75 consecutive matches and shares the program record for Division I era starts with Jordyn West. Ostergaard recorded a career-high four assists this season, including two assists in the span of five minutes to help the Mavericks earn a 3-2 victory over Kansas City. The award is the fifth of Ostergaard's career, as she was also an All-Newcomer team selection in 2020.
Marissa Gohr earned the first postseason honor of her career as the redshirt junior was tabbed Second Team All-Summit League on Thursday. Gohr notched new career highs with four goals and 10 points this season. The Elkhorn South alum helped Omaha earn a 2-2 draw at Missouri with a goal and an assist. Gohr scored her biggest goal of the season with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation to defeat Kansas City by a score of 3-2.
For the second-straight season, Jordyn West was named to the All-Summit League Honorable Mention team. The two-time captain started all 16 matches, logging over 1,400 minutes as she shares the program record of 75 career starts with Ostergaard. The native of Conifer, Colorado helped the Mavericks record seven shutouts on the year and an undefeated record of 2-0-2 on the road in Summit League play. The award marks the third postseason honor for West, who was named to the All-Summit League Newcomer Team in 2020.
Jasmyn Brown and Alyssa Kellar made the most of their first seasons with the Mavericks as they landed on the All-Summit League Newcomer Team. Brown appeared in all 16 matches this season and logged over 850 minutes on the pitch. The freshman from Wichita, Kansas made nine starts as a defender and helped Omaha to seven shutouts. Kellar started all 16 matches in Black and Crimson after spending two seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The redshirt sophomore ranked second on the team with 13 points this year, tallying four goals and five assists. The midfielder from Treynor, Iowa matched the Mavericks' division I era record with six points in a 4-0 victory over St. Thomas with a brace of goals and two assists.
No. 4 Omaha is preparing for a match against the No. 5 seeded South Dakota Coyotes in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 Summit League Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 27 in Denver, Colorado. The winner of Friday's match advances to the semifinals and will face the No. 1 seeded Denver Pioneers in the Centennial State on Sunday.
