No. 2 Omaha Faces Off with No.1 Kansas City in Summit League Championship Finals

VERMILLION, S.D. - After a thrilling win over No. 3 Denver in the semifinals, the No. 2 Omaha Mavericks will take on the No. 1 Kansas City Roos today at 7 p.m. in the Summit League Championship Finals. The game will be broadcast on live Cox YurView as well as the Summit League Network.

The Roos entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed after winning the tie breaker over Omaha, Denver and South Dakota. They played their way into the finals after topping North Dakota State 3-1 in the semifinals.

Kansas City earned seven All-Summit honors this year, with head coach Christi Posey being named Coach of the Year and Leah Green winning Defensive Player of the Year. Green led the league in D/S (4.56) and was fourth in total digs (228), before recording 18 digs on Monday.
Fellow First Team selections Odyssey Warren and Sydney Henry combined for 22 kills and 17 digs against NDSU, with Henry also adding 45 assists.

Having split the regular season series 1-1, Omaha and Kansas City are now tied 11-11-1 all-time.

- The Mavericks made it to their third consecutive Summit League Tournament Finals after holding a late surge from No. 3 Denver in the semifinals. Omaha initially went up 2-0, before the Pioneers tied it at 2-2 to force a decisive fifth.
- Kali Jurgensmeier led the Mavericks with 13 kills vs. Denver. Coincidentally, this tied her career high in kills that she set on November 19, 2022 vs. Denver in last year's semifinals.
- Shayla McCormick and Rachel Fairbanks each posted a double-double yesterday. For McCormick, it was her 11th of the season and for Fairbanks it was her ninth. McCormick also passed the 900 kill mark with her first kill of the match, ending the night with 909 total in her career.
- Amanda Hardt and Emily Huss both recorded six total blocks vs. Denver to lead the team. Their biggest block of the day came at the end of the first when they combined to stuff a shot to secure set point.
- Omaha's win over Denver marked the first time this season that the team won a match in which it trailed in kills and hit under .200.
- The Mavericks scored 11 service aces yesterday, led by Fairbanks' four. This was the fourth time this season they recorded double-digit aces in a match.
- Omaha went 1-1 against Kansas City this season, dropping the first match in five sets before coming back and winning the second match 3-1. Fairbanks had 27 kills and 31 digs between both matches, while McCormick had 33 kills and 27 digs.
