
Garcia Sets Program Record as Mavericks Finish The Johnie

Columbia, Mo.-- The Omaha women's golf team finished the Johnie Imes Invitational in 12th place after the final round on Wednesday, Sept. 27.Â
The Mavericks scored 303 as a team in the third round to end the 54-hole tournament hosted by Missouri with a total score of 908. Omaha finished a stroke behind 11th-place Northern Illinois, and 14 strokes ahead of last-place Creighton. Lipscomb won The Johnie with a four-player team score of 860, and its top golfer Lauren Thompson earned the individual medal with a score of 209.Â
Macarena Garcia made history in Missouri with a three-round total of 219, the best 54-hole score in program history. The sophomore saved her best for last to earn a share of 30th place on the leaderboard, scoring 71 (-1) in the final round after recording matching scores of 74 (+2) in the first two rounds. Garcia passes Jinna Boonbumroongsuk, who held the record with a 54-hole total of 220 at the Islander Classic on Feb. 24-25, 2022. Macarena claims the second program record of her two-year career with Omaha after tying the best single-round score in Mavericks' history with a 68 (-4) in the third round of the Kelsey Chugg Invitational on Sept. 19-20, 2022.Â
Nicole Hansen and Sydney Taake matched scores of 76 (+4) in the third round at the Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Hansen tied for 46th with a total score of 229, and Taake was two strokes behind her in 51st place, totaling 231.Â
Emily Karmazin and Lavinia Romito scored 80 and 81 in the final rounds, respectively. Karmazin ended in a tie for 57th place with a 54-hole score of 234. Romito finished with a total score of 240 for 66th place overall.Â
The Mavericks return home to co-host the Big O Classic with Creighton on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3. Action from Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.Â
