Sutton Named All-League Preseason Player to Watch

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Summit League announced its annual Preseason All-League Teams today, with senior forward Marquel Sutton being selected to the Second Team. The league also announced its preseason rankings today, with the Mavericks being picked eighth out of nine teams.
Entering his third season in Omaha, Sutton is coming off of another strong season on the court, starting all 33 games for the Mavericks in 2023-24. In that span he averaged 12.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg, good for 17th and seventh in the league, and totaled 406 points and 208 total rebounds, ranking 18th and sixth in the Summit, respectively. Sutton also posted 22 double-digit scoring games and four double-doubles.
As a team, Omaha finished the 2023-24 season ranked sixth in scoring (74.0 ppg) and fifth defensively (72.8 ppg). The Mavericks went 15-18 with a 7-9 conference record last season. In the opening round of the Summit League Tournament they pulled off an upset 73-72 victory over North Dakota, before falling just short against Denver in the next round 66-63.
The 2024-25 Mavericks feature eight returners, including Tony Osburn and JJ White alongside Sutton, as well as eight newcomers, including North Dakota State transfers Lance Waddles and Joshua Streit.
