Coach Crutchfield Named HoopDirt National Coach of the Week

After hot start to the first week of conference play, Omaha men's basketball head coach Chris Crutchfield was named the HoopDirt Division I Coach of the Week today.
Crutchfield's Mavericks went 2-0 on the road in the first week of Summit League competition, taking down North Dakota and North Dakota State on the road. Omaha was picked to finish behind both teams in the official summit league preseason poll back before the season started.
Against UND, Omaha came out to an early 10-3 lead and never looked back in a 95-85 victory. Then, on Saturday against the 23rd ranked team in the national Mid Major poll, Omaha came back from a 12-point deficit in the final minutes of the game to upset the Bison 85-80. During the win, Marquel Sutton reached 1000 career points, while former Bison turned Maverick Lance Waddles led the team to victory with five straight three pointers in under three minutes during the closing minutes of the second half.
Omaha is now 8-9 on the season and has now won four straight games and scored at least 80 points in each one.
Next up for the Mavericks will be the first ever nationally televised game hosted at Baxter arena as they take on Kansas City on Wednesday at 8. The Roos are also 2-0 to start league play and were picked to finish first in the conference back in October.
