Softball set for California weekend

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Omaha softball, currently ranked seventh in the D1 Softball Mid-Major Poll, head west for five games in Southern California as the Mavericks (11-2) take part in the Louisville Slugger Invitational.
Omaha begins the weekend with Pitt on Friday, Feb. 28, followed by LMU with the action beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, March 1, Omaha faces Cal Poly and the host Long Beach State. The action concludes with a neutral site matchup against Utah Tech on Sunday, March 2 at 11 a.m. CT.
Omaha's stellar offense heads into the weekend led by Sammy Schmidt with a batting average of .455. Schmidt has six RBI in her last three games (12 on the season) with one home run.
Mike Heard's pitching staff has been strong with Omaha native Maddia Groff leading the Mavericks with a .90 ERA in the circle. Groff is 6-1 on the season with nine appearances and five stats.
