Baseball takes down Western Michigan
Feb 20, 2026 | Baseball
Western Michigan grabbed a 7-3 lead in the fifth inning before the Mavericks (2-3) pieced together a comeback in the seventh.
Brody Sexton singled in the first run in the seventh, then Chase Diggins' RBI groundout made it 7-5.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Jackson Trout was hit by a pitch. Mason Gaines then followed with a single to right field, scoring Edoardo Cornelli and Henry Zipay with the tying and go-ahead runs.
Western Michigan (1-3) put runners at the corners with one out in the eighth, but Nate Moquin recorded a strikeout and a popout to end the threat. Moquin then retired Western Michigan in order in the top of the ninth for his second save. He also closed out Tuesday's 3-1 win at Arizona.
Hayden Lewis had three of Omaha's nine hits on the day. That included a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning that tied the score at 3-3. Omaha scored six of its runs with two outs.
Brayden Curtis earned the win, pitching a scoreless top of the seventh.
Omaha and Western Michigan will play again at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday.
