Volleyball Battles to 3-2 Win Over Grand Canyon

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Omaha Volleyball battled to the very end to secure a 3-2 win over Grand Canyon on the last day of the Lumberjack Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks (5-3) never let up in the first set to win 28-26 over the Lopes (5-4). GCU powered back in the second set to win 25-15 before the Mavs won 25-22 in the third. The Lopes won by an even wider margin in the fourth set with a 25-13 win to even out the match and send the day into a fifth set. Ultimately, through 10 tie scores and four lead changes, the Mavericks succeeded 15-12 to get their first five-set win of the season.
Five wins in the nonconference slate is the program's most since the 2022 season.
Graduate outside hitter Madi Corf (Kansas City, Mo.) led Omaha in kills with 16 for a season high. This was the second match in a row where Corf led the Mavs in that category.
Freshman middle blocker Dara Obeid (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) was next up in kills with 12. Just eight matches into the season, Obeid is up to 80 kills in her freshman season.
Obeid led the team with four solo blocks, earning more in a single match than any other Mavs player has this season so far. Junior outside hitter Alizabeth Jacobsen was right behind her with a career-best three solo blocks.
Omaha has two matches left in the nonconference portion of the season. The Mavericks will head to Drake on Tuesday, Sept. 15 for a 6 p.m. CT meeting. They will then return home to host Kansas State at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 19.
