Late Field Goal Lifts No. 9 UND Over Mavericks
Grand Forks, N.D. -- A 48-yard field goal by No. 9 North Dakota's Jeff Glas with 15 seconds remaining in the game gave the Sioux a 38-35 North Central Conference football victory over 18th-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Saturday afternoon before 9,534 fans at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
The Mavericks, who rallied from a 35-21 deficit in the fourth quarter, missed a 32-yard field goal by freshman Andy Severson with 1:30 remaining in the game that would have given UNO their first lead of the game.
North Dakota clinched at least a share of the North Central Conference championship while improving to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the NCC. The Mavericks dropped to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the NCC.
Senior running back Justin Kammrad recorded his ninth-straight 100-yard and third-straight 200-yard rushing game, finishing with 201 yards and two touchdowns. Kammrad broke the school record for single-season rushing yards and now has 1,558 on the season. All-American Adam Wright held the previous record with 1,381 rushing yards during the 2000 season.
Senior wide receiver Ryan Krause caught eight passes for 173 yards Sophomore quarterback Brian Masek, battling a sprained MCL in his knee, finished with 291 yards and threw for two touchdowns, while rushing for one.
The Mavericks will host Minnesota State, Mankato in their final regular season game next Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. at Caniglia Field.
