Mavs Put 7 On All-NCC Football Team
Seven Mavericks were named to the 2003 All-North Central Conference football team by a vote of the league's coaches. Senior tailback Justin Kammrad, a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, was named the most valuable offensive back in the NCC and senior Ryan Krause was named the most valuable reciever in the league.
In addition to those two, senior tight end Thadd Recek, Columbus, Neb., was named to the first-team offense. The first-team defensive unit includes senior lineman Ryan Stubbendeck, Raymond, Neb., senior defensive back Brandon Pinderhughes, St. Paul, Minn., and twins Taiwo, a sophomore, and Kenny Onatolu, a redshirt freshman, from Omaha at linebacker.
The seven first-teamers matches the 1998 total for the Mavericks. Three other times, in 1979, 1984 and 2000, the Mavs put six on the league's first-team.
The Mavericks also had four second-team representatives. Linemen Brett Hodge, junior from Holdrege, Neb., and Gabe Meints, senior from Tecumseh, and receiver Chris Denney, a sophomore from Norfolk, Neb., were named to the defense, while James I. Johnson, a junior from Millersville, Ga., was named as a defensive back.
Sophomore quarterback Brian Masek, Columbus, Neb., and defensive lineman Tom Cramer, sophomore, Omaha, were honorable mention.
