Naig Win Highlights Mav Showing in Kaufman

Redshirt freshman J.D. Naig scored a 3-1 overtime sudden victory decision over Iowa Central's Curt Zinnel Saturday to highlight UNO's showing in the Kaufman-Brand Open in Sapp Fieldhouse. Naig won the 165-pound title in the Under-20 division in the meet, the largest single-day collegiate wrestling tournament in the nation. Over 500 wrestlers from 40 teams participated in the event.
Travis Paulson, 157 pounder from Iowa State, was named the outstanding wrestler in the Open Division, while C.B. Dollaway, 184 pounds, from Colby Junior College, was the Under-20 Division outstanding wrestler.
Two Luther College wrestlers won the trophies for most falls in the least time. Garrett South, 165, won the Open Division award with five falls in 14:30. The Under 20 award went to Matt Pyle, 149, with seven falls in 18:35.
