OMAHA - The Omaha men's soccer team (4-3-3) took No. 4 Creighton (10-0-2) to the brink Tuesday night in front of 1,155 fans at Caniglia Field, but the Mavericks fell just short in a 4-2 loss.

After Creighton recorded the first shot of the game 20 seconds in, the Mavs responded with a pair of good looks from Lucas Foreman in the 10th minute and Jeppe Runge in the 13th minute, but neither found the back of the net.

The Bluejays converted on two opportunities in the 22nd and 28th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

The Mavs were not going to go down quietly as Italo Jenkins beat the goalkeeper to the ball in the 39th minute. As Jenkins and the goalkeeper tumbled, Maguire Perkins scooted in and tapped the ball into the goal to cut the lead to one. It was Perkins' third goal of the season, while Jenkins recorded his first assist of the year.

Omaha earned a corner in the 44th minute, and Runge sent a ball into Brett Perkins, who got just enough of it to send it toward the back post and tie the match. Perkins picked up his team-leading fifth goal of the season and has now scored in each of the last three matches.

The Mavs continued to put pressure on the Bluejays and controlled much of the second half, but Creighton regained the lead in the 80th minute when a shot from outside the box ricocheted off the back post and bounced into the goal. The Bluejays added another goal in the 86th minute to secure the 4-2 victory.

Omaha will be back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. against Nebraska Wesleyan.
