OMAHA - It was a historic night at Caniglia Field as the Omaha men's soccer team (9-4-3, 3-1-1) recorded the highest-ranked win in program history with a 4-0 victory over No. 5 Kansas City (11-3-2, 4-1-0) on Saturday night. The victory marked Omaha's first win over a top-10 opponent in program history and its third victory over a ranked opponent. The Mavs previously defeated No. 23 UNC Greensboro in 2021 and No. 17 Virginia Tech in 2017. The victory also marked Omaha Athletics' highest-ranked win outside of hockey.
Italo Jenkins also made history Saturday night as the senior scored twice on Senior Day and broke the school record with 10 goals in a single season. Jenkins surpassed Hugo Kametani (2020), Elvir Ibisevic (2017), Fazlo Ailhodzic (2016) and Vance Rockwood (2014), who each held the school record with nine goals in a single season. Jenkins now has 19 career goals at Omaha, ranking second all-time behind Theo Klein's 23.
Jenkins got the scoring started in the 33rd minute as Mikey Stukenholtz started the attack and delivered a beautiful ball to Jenkins, who converted to put the Mavs ahead 1-0. Jenkins threatened again just 87 seconds later as he drew a foul inside the box, and Brett Perkins converted the resulting penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season. Maguire Perkins kept the momentum going with his sixth goal of the season as he took possession and fired a rocket to put the Mavs ahead 3-0 in the 56th minute.
Jenkins added the record-breaking goal in the 60th minute as Amari Fowlkes dished the ball to Jenkins, who broke away from the pack and beat the goalkeeper for the Mavs' fourth goal of the night.
Omaha's four goals were the most Kansas City has allowed this season, and it marked the Roos' first loss since Oct. 11.
With the win, Omaha clinched the No. 2 seed in the Summit League Tournament and will play in the semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Durwood Soccer Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
