Saturday will also serve as the Mavs' Senior Day. Omaha will be honoring six seniors: Tristan Whitlock-Benavides, Italo Jenkins, Ian Silva, Brett Perkins, Sam Schnedt and Kamy Ndione.Â
THE PRIMER - Omaha concludes the regular season on Saturday as it hosts No. 5 Kansas City at 5 p.m. at Caniglia Field. Kansas City enters the match 11-2-2 and 4-0-0 in Summit League play.Â
WHAT'S ON THE LINE - Coach Donovan Dowling has put together one of the more impressive turnarounds in college soccer this season and have the Mavericks in position to be a top two seed in the Summit League Tournament after winning just three total games last season. With a win or a tie, Omaha will clinch the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Omaha can also clinch the No. 2 seed with a St. Thomas loss at Oral Roberts.Â
SERIES SNAPSHOT - The series has been very even over the course of the teams' history as it is tied 5-5-3. Omaha will be looking for its first win over Kansas City since 2023.Â
CHECK THE RANKS - Omaha checked in at fourth in the West Region in the United Soccer Coaches poll, its highest ranking of the season.Â
RECORD-BREAKING SEASON - A pretty good recipe for turning around a program is to start with the offense, and the Mavs have done just that. Omaha had doubled its goal total from last year and hold one of the nation's top offenses. Omaha has already broken the previous school record for total goals in a season of 30. Omaha's 36 goals this season is first in the Summit League and 10th in the entire nation Omaha leads the conference in total goals, goals per game, and shots per game. Omaha is also in the top 16 in the country in all of those categories. Omaha has scored at least three goals in five out of its last seven matches.Â
NOT JUST WINNING...DOMINATING- It has been quite the turnaround for the Mavs this season after winning just three matches last season. The Mavs have won eight matches this year and are looking to tie the school record of 10 wins of a season. Omaha leads the conference and is 21st in the country in goal differential, outscoring its opponents by 16 this season.Â
JENKINS HAVING HISTORIC SEASONÂ - Italo Jenkins has been nothing short of spectacular this season and is looking to cement himself as one of the best goal-scorers in program history. Jenkins has scored eight goals this season which is the second-most in school history. Jenkins needs just one more goal to tie the school record and is two goals away from breaking the school record. Jenkins has six goals in his last five matches.Â
KEEP YOUR EYES OUT FOR - Senior midfielder Brett Perkins (Gretna, Neb.) is in his fourth year with the Mavericks and serves as team captain. Last year, he recorded a pair of assists and 930 minutes for the Mavs. Perkins has recorded six goals and two assists for the Mavs this season. He is the only remaining member of the 2023 Omaha squad that won the Summit League Tournament.Â
Senior goalkeeper Kamy Ndione (Osaka, Japan) is back between the posts for Omaha. Last season, he played 900 minutes, recording 33 saves and a pair of shutouts. Ndione has posted five clean sheets this season and had a career-high nine saves against Western Illinois. He already has 48 saves this season which is more than he had all of last season.
MAGUIRE PERKINS COMING ON STRONG - Maguire Perkins has been coming on strong lately as the junior from Gretna has scored three goals in his last six games while also adding an assist. Perkins is up to five goals this season after scoring just three the previous two seasons.Â
SPREADING THE LOVE - Everyone has gotten a piece of the pie so far this season for the Mavs, as 13 different Mavericks have scored a goal and eight different Mavericks have recorded an assist. Italo Jenkins leads the way with eight goals.Â
FEARLESS LEADERS - Dowling enters his fifth season at the helm of the Mavericks with a record of 34-34-16. He is joined by associate head coach Josh McReynolds (fifth season), assistant coach Ed Gordon (third season) and assistant coach Brendan Dally (second season).
WHO'S ON DECK - Omaha will head to the Summit League Conference Tournament. If Omaha were to clinch the No. 2 seed, they will play either on November 11 or November 12 in Kansas City. If Omaha is a three seed or lower, they will play November 6 in Omaha.Â
