Two Mavs Take Home Titles at UNK Open

KEARNEY, Neb.- Maverick wrestlers Shane Unger and J.D. Naig claimed titles and 13 others placed in the Nebraska-Kearney Runza Loper Open Saturday. Unger won at 141 lb. with a 3-2 decision over Chadron State's Ryan Hoffman while Naig pinned Wyoming's Trevor Murray at the 2:00 mark in the 165 lb. final.
Dustin Tovar (125), Mitch Waite (133) and Nate Oviatt (184) each finished second in their weights and Dustin Finer (125), Patrick Allibone (149) and Nick Edmonds (174) finished third.
UNK's Bryce Abbey was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler after claiming a 7-2 decision over Tovar in the 125 lb. championship match.
The Mavs will be idle until Jan. 3 when they compete in the Dana Open in Blair.
