Taiwo Onatolu Earns All-Region Honor
Junior linebacker Taiwo Onatolu has been named to the Daktronics Division II All-Northwest Region football team by a vote of the region's sports information directors. Senior offensive lineman Brett Hodge and junior tailback Jamar Day were both named to the second team.
Onatolu, from Papillion, led the team in tackles and interceptions during UNO's 8-3 North Central Conference championship season. He returned three passes for touchdowns and also recorded four sacks. League coaches named him the most valuable linebacker in the NCC. Onatolu will now advance to the national ballot.
Hodge, a co-captain from Holdrege, was a first-team all-NCC pick and helped the Mavs rush for 239 yards per game and score 27 rushing touchdowns.
Day, from Lancaster, Calif., didn't earn a starter's berth until midway through the season, but led the NCC in rushing. He finished with 1,541 yards and set school records with 17 touchdowns and 104 points and had five touchdowns in one game. He had four games over 200 yards and was named the league's most valuable offensive back.
