Trio Sign Letters to Attend UNO
University of Nebraska at Omaha football coach Pat Behrns said today that two junior college players and a high school recruit have signed national and North Central Conference letters to attend school and play football this fall for the Mavericks.
Greg Padgitt, a wide receiver from San Bernardino Junior College; William Newell, a wide receiver from Clarksville, Tenn., North West High School, and Brandon Fasavalu, a quarterback from Long Beach City College, are the newest Mavericks.
Padgitt is a 6-4, 225-pound native of Austin, Tex., who played at San Bernardino for two seasons. He was a first-team all Class 5A player at Pflugerville High School where he caught 24 passes for 390 yards as a senior and also set the school's high jump record with a mark of 6-10. He caught 19 passes for 250 yards last year at San Bernardino.
Newell, 6-3, 195, was a second-team all-area player at North West High School in Clarksville, Tenn., and also earned all-area honors in basketball.
Fasavalu, 6-1, 220, passed for 2,400 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 383 yards and six TDs at Long Beach City College last season. He was an all-conference player at Long Beach Poly High School and also lettered in volleyball.
The Mavericks will report for pre-season practice on August 4 and will begin practice the following day. Media Day will be on Thursday, August 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Caniglia Field. UNO opens the 2004 season on August 28 at home against the University of Nebraska at Kearney at 7 p.m.
