McCaslin Named Defensive Coordinator
Brad McCaslin, an assistant coach for eight seasons with the Mavericks, will be the team's new defensive coordinator, Head Coach Pat Behrns said today.
"Brad has done a great job with everything we've asked him to do," Behrns said. "He knows our players and has been an important part of our success over the years."
McCaslin has been the recruiting coordinator for the Mavericks for four years while coaching the defensive line and special teams. His first three years at UNO he served as a graduate assistant before becoming a full-time assistant coach in 2000.
The Cheyenne, Wyo., native is a 1994 graduate of Hastings College, where he was a four-year player at wide reciever. He spent two years as a teacher and assistant football coach at Omaha Benson High School before joining the Maverick staff.
"I'm excited about the opportunity," McCaslin said. "We have a great staff and some outstanding players in our program to work with."
McCaslin replaces Fred Reed, who was the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for two seasons before accepting a position on the staff at Ohio University in January.
Behrns said he hopes to add another full-time assistant to his staff before spring practice begins March 21.
