No. 1 UNO Downs No. 2 Minnesota State, 25-10
MANKATO, MINN. -- No. 1 ranked UNO posted its second dual win over No. 2 ranked Minnesota State Saturday night, winning seven of 10 matches for a 25-10 decision at Bresnan Arena.
The Mavericks, now 9-1, will close their dual season at home Friday night when they host Augustana at Sapp Fieldhouse.
UNO's Dustin Tovar, Mitch Waite and Eli Dominguez won the first three matches before No. 2 ranked Shane Unger was upset by MSU's third-ranked Jason Rhoten, 11-3.
Patrick Allibone, J.D. Naig and Steve Conlin then won for a 22-4 Maverick lead. MSU cut the margin to 22-10 with wins at 184 and 197 pounds over Nate Oviatt and Ben Strandberg, but two-time defending national champion Les Sigman scored a 7-1 decision in the final match.
UNO defeated MSU 18-15 earlier this season when the teams met in the second round of the NWCA National Dual Meet Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
