3 Mavs Win Titles at Dana Open
BLAIR, Neb. -- Cody Garcia, J.D. Naig and Les Sigman all won titles as 12 Mavericks placed in the Dana Open wrestling tournament Saturday. Six other Mavericks finished second in the meet, the first for UNO in nearly a month.
Sigman, 4-0 at heavyweight, was named the meet's outstanding wrestler and Garcia, who was 4-0, with all of them pins at 125 pounds, earned the trophy for the most falls in the least time with four in just 7:01.
Naig won the title at 165 pounds with a 4-0 record.
Jimmy Ball finished second at 125 with a 3-1 mark; Dan Hilario was second at 133 with a 2-1 record; Mitch Waite was second at 141 with a 3-1 record; Shane Unger was 3-1 and second at 149; Patrick Allibone was second at 157 and was 2-0, and Ross Taplin was 3-1 and second at 165.
Other Mavericks and their records included: Christian Alt, 3rd, 3-1 at 141; Nick Edmonds, 0-2 at 184; Jacob Marrs, 1-0, injury default, 197; Brandon Stanley 2-2, 165; Henry Wahle, 157, 3rd, 3-1; Jay Wood, 2-2, 174, and Tony Lewis, 3-2, 4th, heavyweight.
The Mavericks will be back in action next Saturday in the National Dual Meet Tournament at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
