Marrs Nabs NCC Wrestler of the Week Honor
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Jacob Marrs was named the NCC Wrestler of the Week for his performances last weekend at the Kaufman/Brand Open. It marked the second-straight week a Maverick has won the honor as JD Naig received the award last week.
Marrs, a freshman from Clay Center, Kan., was the fourth seed, but posted a 5-0 record to win the 197-pound title at the Kaufman/Brand Open Elite division. Marrs pinned John Horman of Truman State in :24, major decisioned Jason Waidzulis of Minnesota, 12-0, and major decisioned Jacob Bryce of North Dakota State, 9-1, to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, he was leading #1-seed Sam Wendland of Wyoming 8-1 when Wendland was forced by injury to default the match. In the finals, Marrs decisioned Nate Buys of Augustana 8-4 to avenge one of Marrs' two losses from earlier in the season.
