Garcia Named NCC Wrestler of the Week
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Cody Garcia (125 pounds) has been named the North Central Conference wrestler of the week after his performance last week at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Loper Open.
Garcia, a sophomore from Hutchinson, Kan., won his division at the UNK Open with a 4-0 mark. He opened the meet with pins of Wendell Jones of Missouri Baptist (1:18) and Michah Chrisinger of Chadron State (1:09). In the semifinals he decisioned Chris Trampe of Augustana, 4-2, before downing Ben Kjar of Utah Valley State, 3-1, in the finals. Trampe is ranked eighth in the current NCAA Division II rankings. Garcia, the defending NCAA II national champion, is ranked first in the latest rankings.
