Hochstein Earns AP All-American Honor
Junior offensive tackle Ben Hochstein has been named to the Associated Press' Little All-America first-team, giving the Mavericks at least one first-team selection in each of the past 10 seasons. The team includes players from NCAA Divisions II and III and NAIA schools.
Hochstein is a three-year starter in the offensive line for the Mavericks. The 6-4, 298-pound native of Hartington, Neb., was named the North Central Conference's most valuable offensive lineman after the conclusion of the season.
The Cedar Catholic High School product helped the Mavericks lead NCAA Division II in rushing, averaging 282.3 yards per game, while scoring 36 touchdowns.
Hochstein is also a two-time member of the NCC's all-academic team and was named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA all-district academic team.
He is the 29th player to earn first-team All-America honors at UNO, dating back to the first selection, Leo Pearey, in 1935, and is the ninth offensive lineman to earn a spot. It is also the third straight year that the Mavericks have had a junior earn first-team honors, following linebacker Taiwo Onatolu in 2004 and tight end Zac Herold in 2005. Only three other players have earned first-team honors twice: tailback Bill Englehardt, 1955-56; offensive lineman Chris Bober, 1998-99, and defensive back Chad Geiger, 2000-01.
