Mavs Face Final Dual at Augustana
UNO will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to face No. 6 ranked Augustana College Wednesday at the Elmen Center on the Augustana campus at 7 p.m. The match will be the final dual meet of the season for the Mavericks, who will carry a 9-0 mark into the meet. The Vikings are 12-4.

The Mavericks won six straight matches, from 133-174, en route to a 22-12 win over No. 2 ranked Minnesota State, Mankato at Sapp Fieldhouse last Friday. Heavyweight Les Sigman's 66th straight win finished off the repeat victory over MSU. UNO's J.D. Naig earned North Central Conference wrestler of the week honors. Naig, No. 2 ranked at 174 pounds, scored a reversal and near fall in the final 15 seconds to defeat No. 1 ranked Travis Krinkie of Minnesota State, 9-6.
The Coach
Mike Denney is in his 27th season as the Maverick head coach. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 261-101-5 career mark. He has twice been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year and led the 1991, 2004 and 2005 Mavericks to NCAA II national championships. UNO has also won three National Dual titles, in 1997, 2005 and 2006.
Maverick Notes...
Last Sunday's dual with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville was canceled. The Cougars notified UNO earlier in the week that they would be unable to make the trip to Omaha. That left the Mavericks with just Friday's match as the only home dual of the season. The Mavs have won 14 of their past 15 dual meets, dropping the final match last year to Augustana...UNO leads the series with Augustana, 23-10, including a 28-11 win over the Vikings in the second round of the National Dual tournament in January...the Mavericks will be trying to record their first undefeated dual season since 1969-70 when coach Don Benning guided the team to a 14-0 mark. That team went on to win the NAIA title, the first of four national mat titles won by UNO.

UNO will have a 10-day break before hosting the eight-team NCAA II North Regional on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Sapp Fieldhouse. The first matches begin at 10 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Teams entered include UNO, Augustana, St. Cloud State, Minnesota State, Upper Iowa, Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State-Moorhead.
