UNO Advances to Semifinals at National Duals
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- For the sixth-consecutive year, the University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team advanced to the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals. The No. 4-ranked Mavericks advanced by defeating No. 16 Findlay, 33-7, and No. 5 Pitt-Johnstown, 22-13, on Saturday in the UNI Dome.
The Mavericks won eight of 10 matches en route to a 33-7 win over Findlay in the first round.
Nebraska-Omaha's win over the Oilers was highlighted by three Maverick pins. Sophomore 149-pounder Todd Meneely pinned the Oilers' Ali Nour in 0:21. Sophomore Ross Taplin (165) won by fall over Justin Shannon in 3:47 and senior JD Naig (174) ended his match with Richard Godd at the 1:43 mark.
Senior Jimmy Ball (125), who was wrestling in only his second match of the season got the Mavericks off on the right foot with a 6-1 decision over Alex Schumaker. The Oilers rebounded as second-ranked and 2005 national champion Andy Uhl decided freshman Jeff Rau, 11-3.
The Mavericks then took seven out of the next eight matches to pull away for the first round victory.

In a battle of the two top 174-pounders in the nation, top-ranked Naig pinned second-ranked Eli Garshnich in 6:08 to give Naig his second pin of the day.
Ball, Meneely, and Jacob Marrs (197) all picked up their second victories on the day as all but one Maverick earned at least one win on Saturday.
