3 Mavs Headed to Cactus Bowl

Three Maverick seniors from UNO's 10-1 North Central Conference championship team have been selected to play in the Valero Cactus Bowl. Defensive linemen Bobby Jones and Rob Lewis and offensive lineman Jake Krause will represent the Mavericks in the Jan. 11 contest in Kingsville, Texas, that includes the top seniors from NCAA Division II schools.
Lewis was the NCC's most valuable defensive lineman. The Kearney, Neb., native had 22 solo tackles and 14 assists. He had three sacks, one interception and broke up seven passes, while leading the team with 13 quarterback hurries.
Krause, from Omaha, was named to the all-NCC first team. He was an integral part of the offensive line, playing guard, center and tackle during his career, and helped the Mavs rush for 295 yards per game and score 39 touchdowns this season.
Jones, from Yankton, S.D., recorded seven tackles and two sacks this season.
Kickoff will be at 7 p.m., with the game televised by Fox Sports Southwest.
