Spring Game is Final Exam for Mavs
It will be final exam time for the football team Saturday as the Mavericks stage their Red-White game at noon at Caniglia Field to conclude this year's spring drills. No admission will be charged for the game.
The Mavericks have had two full scrimmages this spring. In the first, quarterbacks Zach Miller, Greg Wunderlich and Brian Gralheer combined for 276 passing yards and three touchdowns. In the second, the defense dominated, scoring the only touchdown on an interception by Reed Taylor.
UNO returns 47 lettermen, including 14 with starting experience, from a 2006 squad that won its third straight North Central Conference title with an 8-3 record.
The Leo Pearey Awards, given to the players who have shown the most improvement during the spring at their positions, will be announced at halftime of the game.
The UNO Beef Club will hold its annual kick-off drive following the contest at DJ's Dugout, 114th and West Dodge Road.
